The winners of Cannes Film Festival 2023 Awards, including the coveted Palme d’Or, were unveiled at a glitzy ceremony in Cannes, France at the weekend. The awards included many of my favorite films of the festival, although my top pick didn’t end up with the palm. French filmmaker Justin Triat took home the top prize – her new film Anatomy of a fall Won the Palme d’Or this year, following Ruben Ostlund’s second win the nerve triangle Last year. Several other critics’ picks also won awards: area of interest Won the Grand Prix (second place) although it really should have taken home the palm instead. The delightful romantic magic of Aki Kaurismaki Autumn leaves Won the Jury Prize. My favorite win of the night went to the Japanese player Koji Yakushowhich is transcendent in the poetic drama perfect days. All in all a solid amount of the year’s best holiday winners. That’s all the big winners at Cannes this year. Congratulations to all 2023 festival films! As for my thoughts, well, just like last year – I don’t know why they chose Anatomy of a fall. It’s not the best of the holiday, it’s not innovative, it’s not really amazing. It’s a good movie, that’s for sure, but No The deepest in the competition. My personal choice for the Palme d’Or is She has a chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, who really should have won something anyway. I also wanted to see Wim Vander’s perfect days or The pot-o-pow Won other awards, but both still got something. The other winners are mostly satisfactory, which is pretty nice to see anyway – not much to complain about. I was hoping that the incredibly talented German actress Sandra Holler will win the prize – except because they gave the palm Anatomy of a fall, they should have given Best Actress to someone else in a different movie. Instead it went to the Turkish actress in Ceylan’s film, which is great because on dry herbs He is excellent and this should bring him even more attention.

The jury of 2023 was led by the Swedish director Ruben Ostlund As president, with: Mariam Tozani, Denis Manusha, Rongano Nyoni, Bri Larson, Paul Dano, Atik Rahimi, Damian Shafron, Julia Ducournau.
