“Better wake up, fool.” This is amazing. A spectacular 10-minute short film is available online called Inside the blind iris, directed by Brazilian filmmaker Douglas Bernardt. The film was shot in the UK and features choreography and art direction by a famous dancer Butis Seva, along with mesmerizing photography by DP Harry Wheeler. “Inside the blind iris is an experimental cinematic dance film that explores oppression and lack of belonging. Dancers, set in the confused state of mind of the main character, appear as haunting ghosts and memories, as he travels in search of his self.” It is a visual experience that combines dance and film and music to explore themes of oppression and dominance and autonomy. Includes music by the composer Lars Silvest turban. The dancing scenes of the light and shadows that emanate in the direction ~4:30 In this video they are phenomenal, visually and kinetically stunning. The ending with the whale is also rad – an obvious reference to Bela Tar Werckmeister harmonies. Take a few minutes of your time to watch and admire.
